My Take
What I admire about J. B. Smoove is how he turned a supporting role into a cultural fixture. Leon on Curb Your Enthusiasm could have been a throwaway character, but Smoove made him unforgettable with that rapid-fire, gloriously absurd logic that somehow always lands. A Def Comedy Jam alum who paid his dues writing for Saturday Night Live, he understands comedy from the inside out. To me he represents a rare kind of performer who is content to steal scenes rather than headline them, and ends up more beloved for it. His longevity in that role speaks volumes about real craft.
