My Take
Jacob deGrom is, in my eyes, one of the most artful pitchers of his era. What gets me is the origin story: a college shortstop at Stetson converted to pitching almost by accident, who then won back-to-back Cy Young Awards in 2018 and 2019 despite the Mets rarely giving him run support. That is dominance measured by pure stuff rather than wins, and it commands respect. His blend of triple-digit velocity and surgical control from a lanky 6-foot-4 frame is genuinely beautiful to watch. Injuries have tested him, but he keeps returning to mesmerize. I love an ace this stubbornly excellent.
