My Take
Sir James Galway is simply "The Man with the Golden Flute" to me, and few classical musicians ever transcend their instrument the way he did. The Belfast-born virtuoso took the flute, often a supporting voice in the orchestra, and turned it into a star, selling millions and charming audiences who'd never sat in a concert hall. I love that he came up through the great orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic under Karajan, before going solo. His knighthood and lifetime achievement honours feel completely deserved. What I admire most is his showmanship paired with genuine artistry. He made classical music feel warm and accessible without dumbing it down.
