My Take
James Marsden is my favorite kind of actor: the reliable craftsman the industry quietly leans on. Coming out of Stillwater, Oklahoma, through 1990s television guest spots, he built a career on being almost too handsome for the parts he gets, the decent man who loses the girl, and then subverting that with genuine comic timing and a legitimate singing voice. Two Emmy nominations confirm what attentive viewers already knew. I find his lack of a defining trophy almost beside the point; longevity through versatility is its own award. Whenever he appears on screen, I relax, because the scene is in safe hands.
