Jason Earles

Earles wins my respect as the actor who quietly defied arithmetic, playing Hannah Montana's teenage brother Jackson while pushing thirty and selling it completely through sheer charm. That kind of elastic, ageless comic presence is harder than it looks, and a generation of Disney kids carry both Jackson and his Kickin' It role, Rudy, as permanent fixtures of childhood. What pleases me now is his move behind the camera into directing and into podcasting; performers who choose to build, not just appear, usually love the work for its own sake. His instinct for comic timing is real, and I would happily keep watching wherever he aims it next.
