My Take
Jeff Garlin is, to me, the quintessential scene-stealer. A Chicago-born stand-up, he is forever Jeff Greene to me, Larry David's hapless sidekick on Curb Your Enthusiasm, anchoring all that improvised, prickly comedy with perfect timing. He went on to play the blustering dad on The Goldbergs, and across his career he has directed, written, and produced as well, a true craftsman of laughter. There is something oddly lovable about that big frame grumbling its way through a scene. I am drawn to actors who shine from the supporting slot rather than the marquee, and Garlin is exactly that kind of quiet favorite.
