Soyeon

Soyeon is one of the most respect-worthy figures in modern K-pop, and I mean that as a maker, not just a performer. Forged through Produce 101 and Unpretty Rapstar before her 2017 solo debut, she earned her place the hard way. What truly wins me over is that she writes and produces her own material, refusing to be merely the face of someone else's vision. Her persistence through some twenty to thirty failed auditions and her sharp, fearless rapping give her real bite. I love artists who claim authorship of their own sound, and Soyeon does exactly that with conviction and undeniable craft.
