My Take

Jesse Eisenberg has cornered the market on brilliant, anxious, fast-talking men, and I never tire of watching him do it. His Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network was so precise it practically defined a generation's idea of cold genius. Yet he is just as good as the timid survivor in Zombieland or the slick illusionist of Now You See Me, always finding a nervy edge. Lately, writing and directing A Real Pain, he has shown there is a serious filmmaker behind the actor. What draws me in is the tension he carries between intelligence and fragility, two qualities that feel inseparable in everything he touches.

Recognized for playing smart but socially awkward characters in both comedies and dramas, his accolades include a BAFTA Award as well as nominations for two Academy Awards, and three Golden Globes. Eisenberg made his television debut with the short-lived comedy-drama series Get Real (1999–2000).
