My Take
What strikes me most about Jessie J is the sheer vocal machinery behind the pop sheen. Plenty of artists had a hit like Price Tag, which topped charts in nineteen countries; very few could sing it live, stripped down, in any key, and make it sound bigger than the record. I admire that she came up writing songs before stepping out front, because it shows in how sturdily her hooks are built. Her career has had quieter stretches, but I have never doubted the instrument itself.
