My Take
Jessie Reyez is one of the rawest voices to come out of Toronto in years, and that rawness is exactly why I keep returning to her. "Figures" hit triple platinum because it refused to be polished into something safe, and her Juno Breakthrough win felt fully earned. What I value most is her willingness to leave the pain audible, to let a cracked note land rather than smoothing it over. Her Colombian roots seem to feed a music that holds both wound and defiance at once. I suspect her best work is still ahead, and I find that genuinely exciting to anticipate.
