My Take

For me, Workman is forever Pugsley, and that is no small legacy. His turn in The Addams Family and Addams Family Values gave the films a strange, gleeful sweetness, the deadpan menace of a kid utterly comfortable in a macabre household. Child stardom rarely ages gracefully, and he wisely stepped away rather than chasing diminishing roles. There is a nice symmetry too, with his younger sister Ariel Winter carrying the family torch into a new generation of television. Some actors capture one perfect role and let it stand; Workman did exactly that, and I find that quietly admirable.
