My Take
Jodie Whittaker earned my lasting respect the moment she took on the Thirteenth Doctor. Stepping into Doctor Who as the first woman to lead that hallowed franchise meant absorbing a wave of scrutiny no previous Doctor faced, and she did it without flinching, keeping her Yorkshire accent and her warmth intact. But it would be a mistake to define her by that alone. Her devastating turn as a grieving mother in Broadchurch and her award-nominated debut in Venus prove a range that runs far deeper than science fiction. From a small northern town to the heart of British television, she is a performer who carries quiet courage into every role.
