My Take

What I admire most about Joel Kinnaman is how he turned a very Scandinavian restraint into a Hollywood asset. Plenty of actors shout to be noticed; he does the opposite, letting stillness and a flicker of the eyes carry whole scenes. His break in Easy Money showed a gift for playing men whose confidence is one bad decision from collapse, and he has kept mining that vein in American crime and science-fiction roles ever since. I find his bilingual career fascinating too — he never abandoned Swedish cinema, which keeps his instincts honest. He is, to me, the model of a working actor: unflashy, consistent, and quietly magnetic.
