My Take

John Alvbåge is the sort of goalkeeper whose career I find genuinely compelling. Starting at little Torslanda IK in Gothenburg and then keeping goal across Sweden, Denmark, Norway, the United States, and Cyprus before retiring in 2022 is a remarkably nomadic run for a position where one error can sink a whole match. That demands a thick skin and serious mental durability. At 187 cm he had the frame for the last line of defence, but it is the longevity and willingness to chase the game across borders that impresses me. I have a soft spot for the wandering shot-stopper, and his story fits it perfectly.
