John Harbaugh

I respect coaches who earn their job from the unglamorous end of the sport, and John Harbaugh is the archetype. Nine years coaching special teams in Philadelphia is the football equivalent of working the kitchen line before owning the restaurant. Then eighteen seasons running the Ravens — in a league that fires coaches over two bad Octobers, that kind of tenure is practically geological. What I read in his career is not genius so much as durability: clear standards, steady culture, and players who keep buying in. Taking on the Giants in his sixties tells me the competitive engine never cooled, and that stubbornness is the most underrated trait in coaching.
