My Take

Jon Landau fascinates me as the rare critic who bet his career on his own review. Declaring that he had seen rock and roll's future in Bruce Springsteen would have been bold enough; abandoning journalism to manage and produce that future took real conviction. Few people have shaped an artist's legacy so completely from behind the curtain, and fewer still have done it for half a century without scandal or self-promotion.
