My Take
Joost Klein fascinates me because he refuses to sit still inside any single genre. Rooted in hip hop but pulling in drum and bass, hardstyle, hyperpop and gabber, he builds a sound that feels like a controlled riot. Coming out of Leeuwarden in Friesland, and moving from YouTube into music while directing his own videos, he is the kind of fully self-authored artist I find compelling. Europapa shows an ambition to speak to a whole continent at once. Born in 1997, he already carries a recognizable world of his own, and I suspect his most disruptive, interesting work is still ahead of him.
