My Take

Jordan Wicks is exactly the kind of crafty left-hander I enjoy watching develop. He is not the guy who blows you away with triple-digit velocity; instead his calling card is that wicked changeup, a pitch scouts raved about coming out of Kansas State. As a Cubs first-rounder, he carries real expectations, and his debut showed flashes of a pitcher who knows how to sequence and outthink hitters rather than just overpower them. Health and consistency are the open questions, but if the changeup keeps fooling big-league bats, he has the profile of a dependable mid-rotation starter.
