My Take

Josh Klinghoffer took on one of the most thankless jobs in rock: replacing John Frusciante in the Red Hot Chili Peppers. From 2007 to 2019 he stood under that brutal scrutiny and delivered I'm with You and The Getaway, never quite escaping the comparison yet never collapsing under it either. As a Los Angeles native who guitars, sings, and composes, he's a genuine multi-instrumentalist talent. I respect the nerve it takes to fill a beloved predecessor's shoes and still play your own sound. To me he's a craftsman first, and that quiet endurance is what I find most admirable.
