Kai Hansen

Kai Hansen is one of those figures whose importance outsizes his fame. Co-founding Helloween and then steering Gamma Ray, he helped invent power metal rather than merely play it. What I admire is the completeness of the man: guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, producer, all in one stubborn package. The decision to rejoin a band he left decades earlier says something warm about loyalty too. He never chased trends; he just kept building a sound, album after album, and sold millions doing it on his own terms. That conviction is rare.
