Kanae Itō

I have a real soft spot for Kanae Itō, because her voice is one of those you clock instantly: bright, sweet, a little sugary, but never weightless. There's a sunny clarity to it, and I love that under all that warmth there's a spine. What sells me is the pedigree without the ego: Best New Actress at the Seiyu Awards in 2010, Best Supporting Actress the very next year, so this wasn't luck or hype, she was the real deal early. And she sings too, pouring the same earnest, full-throttle energy into both. She's not the type elbowing to the front of the frame, but she radiates this gentle, big-sister glow that just quietly leaves you in a better mood than you started.
