My Take

Katey Sagal is one of those performers I admire precisely because she never seems to be performing. Hollywood-born and classically capable, she could have coasted on glamour, yet she built her name as the gloriously slovenly Peg Bundy, then voiced a one-eyed alien on Futurama, then anchored serious cable drama with a Golden Globe-winning turn. That range is rare, and the fact that she is also a genuine singer-songwriter underneath it all only deepens my respect. Her Walk of Fame star feels earned by craft rather than fame. I value actors who disappear into wildly different characters, and she does it with an ease that makes it look effortless.
