Kathy Kirby

Kathy Kirby is the kind of star whose story carries both dazzle and ache. At her 1960s peak she was one of the most recognized faces in British entertainment, and her second-place finish at Eurovision 1965 plus her hit cover of "Secret Love" cemented that glow. What moves me is how completely she embodied an era, the blonde, glamorous voice of postwar British pop. Fame that bright rarely lasts untroubled, and her later years were quieter. I think that contrast is exactly what makes her memorable: not a flawless legend, but a real artist whose best recordings still hold their shine long after 2011.
