Kelly Overton

I first met Kelly Overton through Vanessa Van Helsing, and what stays with me is the trajectory rather than the role. She grew up in Wilbraham, Massachusetts, and didn't settle for being in front of the camera. Stage actor, screen actor, then screenwriter and director. I have an instinctive respect for performers who cross over into building the story themselves, because it takes a different kind of courage to surrender the spotlight for the control booth. There's a toughness in her on-screen heroines and, I suspect, a careful, detail-minded patience behind the scenes. I find myself quietly rooting for whatever she chooses to make next.
