My Take

Kenny Baker fascinates me because he achieved global immortality in a role where his face was never seen. Giving R2-D2 its personality through movement and presence alone is an underrated feat of physical acting, and the fact that he also appeared in Amadeus, Time Bandits and Labyrinth shows real range. I find something quietly heroic about an artist who poured himself into a part the world adored without ever needing the spotlight on himself. He passed in 2016, but every time that little droid rolls onscreen, Baker's craft lives on. He was, in the purest sense, a beloved professional.
