Kent Tekulve

Kent Tekulve is the kind of player I quietly admire most. He wasn't a flame-throwing star; he was a submarine-style reliever who survived sixteen big-league seasons largely with the Pirates by outsmarting hitters rather than overpowering them. Lasting that long out of the bullpen takes a craftsman's patience and an unglamorous toughness that rarely gets headlines. I love that his nickname "The Scarecrow" carries that workmanlike charm. To me he represents the unsung specialist whose value you only fully appreciate when you stop looking for fireballs and start watching the quiet, repeatable excellence.
