Kevin Mullin

What I find compelling about Kevin Mullin is the quiet discipline behind his rise. Yes, he is the son of a former assemblyman, but rather than coasting on that name he put in a decade in the California State Assembly before earning a seat in Congress. That patience suggests someone who values the unglamorous machinery of legislating over the spotlight. His entrepreneurial background also intrigues me, because politicians who have actually run something tend to grasp the cost of their decisions. He represents a slice of the San Francisco Peninsula he clearly knows from the ground up, and I respect a public servant rooted that firmly in home soil.
