My Take

I have a real soft spot for Killer Khan. The guy was 195cm of pure presence, the kind of heel who could make a whole arena go quiet just by glaring from the corner. What gets me is the journey: a kid from Tsubame in Niigata who started in sumo, traded the dohyo for the wrestling ring, carved out a name overseas in the 80s playing the fearsome "Mongolian" villain, and then went and sang too. That's a lot of lives crammed into one enormous body. Behind the scary face I always sensed something warm and oddly likable, the mark of a guy playing a monster for a living but not actually being one. When he passed at the close of 2023, it felt like a real piece of an era went with him. Rest easy, big man.
