Kunihiko Mitamura

I'll be honest, the first thing that pops into my head with Kunihiko Mitamura is that face, that classic clean-cut leading-man handsomeness that made him a heartthrob in the era of "Hissatsu Shigotonin," where he played the gentle craftsman who quietly dispatched villains. There's something irresistible about that pretty-boy-with-a-blade contradiction, and I get why he sent a generation swooning. What I love even more is the long second act, which took him into NHK taiga dramas as Tokugawa Yoshinobu and Katagiri Katsumoto. A Niigata kid who's stayed near the front line of television for decades, he strikes me as proof that looks open the door but it's the likeable, human warmth underneath that keeps you around. Quietly classy guy.
