Lara Stone

Lara Stone is, to me, proof that a fairytale beginning still needs real grit to hold up. Spotted at twelve in the Paris Metro, she could have been a one-season novelty, yet she became the face of Calvin Klein and a fixture for Fendi, Chanel, Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Versace. What interests me is that she never fit the era's identikit mold; her appeal was a distinct, slightly off-beat beauty that designers kept choosing on purpose. I respect models who win on character rather than conformity, and Stone turned a lucky subway encounter into a long, deliberate career. That conversion is the part I rate.
