My Take

Laurence Fishburne is one of those actors where you feel the weight of the scene shift the moment he walks into it — and I mean that as the highest compliment. He was already on the set of Apocalypse Now as a teenager, which tells you everything about how early that gravitational pull showed up. The Tony Award for Two Trains Running, the Emmy, Boyz n the Hood, and then of course Morpheus — that voice, that stillness, that absolute refusal to be anything less than completely present. He never chews scenery; he just occupies space so fully that everyone else has to recalibrate around him. I genuinely think he's one of the most underrated presences of his generation, because "reliable" and "commanding" somehow gets taken for granted when it should be celebrated.
