My Take
If you want to talk about pure explosive speed on ice, Lee Sang-hwa is the name that comes to mind first. She went back-to-back Olympic gold in the 500 metres — Vancouver 2010, then Sochi 2014 — and watching her burst out of the starting blocks felt almost unfair, like she was playing a different game than everyone else. What I love about her story is that she kept getting better with age and experience, and at PyeongChang 2018 she pushed all the way to silver on home soil, which honestly might have taken as much guts as the two golds. She studied at Korea University while competing at the highest level, which tells you this is someone who takes the whole package seriously. A genuine legend of sprint skating.
