Lilli Carati

Lilli Carati's career, moving from modeling to mainstream Italian cinema and later into adult film, invites easy caricature, but I resist reducing her to it. She was a striking presence of 1970s Italian film, a period both glamorous and quietly punishing for actresses. She died in 2014. Rather than judge the arc, I prefer to read it as one person navigating a difficult industry on her own terms. To me she belongs to the textured, complicated history of an era worth remembering honestly, light and shadow together.
