My Take

Luis Díaz is my favorite kind of footballer: one who plays like the game still belongs to the street. Coming out of Barrancas in Colombia's La Guajira region — hardly a traditional pipeline to elite football — he carried that joy all the way to Bayern Munich's left wing. What I admire most isn't the dribbling, dazzling as it is, but the relentless pressing; superstars rarely chase lost causes that hard. There is an honesty in his running that you cannot coach. Every time he squares up a defender, I lean forward. He makes football feel simple again, and that's a gift.
