My Take
Lydia Lunch is exactly the sort of artist I admire most, the kind who never asked to be liked. Emerging from late-1970s New York's no wave scene with Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, she made deliberately abrasive, confrontational music, then refused to stay in one lane, working as poet, writer, actress and performance artist. What I value is her absolute lack of compromise across decades; the labels never contained her because she kept widening them. True avant-garde is not a pose you grow out of, it's a temperament, and she has it. Few people stay this uncompromising for this long.
