My Take
What strikes me about Mamata Shankar is the company she keeps on screen. Acting for Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, and Buddhadeb Dasgupta is not a resume, it is a stamp of artistic seriousness that few performers anywhere can claim. As the niece of Ravi Shankar, she carries a lineage of Indian artistry, yet she clearly earned her place as actress, dancer, and choreographer in her own right. I admire performers who let the work speak rather than the spotlight, and her decades in Bengali cinema embody exactly that kind of quiet, durable mastery.
