Måns Mårlind

Måns Mårlind is one of those creators I deeply respect. The Swedish director behind The Bridge, the Nordic-noir landmark that spawned remakes worldwide including Britain's The Tunnel, he proved that mood and atmosphere can travel across cultures. He's versatile enough to handle Hollywood spectacle like Underworld: Awakening, yet what wins me over is his gift for bottling a cold, melancholic mood inside a story. Directors who also write tend to be the strongest, because the vision stays unbroken from page to frame. I trust filmmakers who can truly speak through images, and he sits near the top of that list.
