Ryo Yoshizawa

Okay, so my first instinct with Ryo Yoshizawa was lazy: a face that symmetrical surely only gets cast as the icy heartthrob, right? Wrong, and I love being wrong about this one. The dude clearly has zero vanity about his looks, because he'll cheerfully dive into comedy, into unhinged villainy, into roles where he gets to be weird and ugly and feral, grinning the whole time. That willingness to torch his own pretty-boy image is exactly what makes him fun to watch. And he's got the hardware to back it up, picking up newcomer and supporting-actor honors while still in his twenties and then the Japan Academy Film Prize for Best Actor for Kokuho (2025). It has not all been smooth: on December 30, 2024, he drunkenly entered a neighbor's apartment, was questioned by police and later settled with the neighbor out of court. A Tokyo-bred classic good-looking guy who somehow radiates approachability instead of arrogance. Keep blindsiding me, please.
