My Take
Masahiro Nakai was, for decades, one of the most skilled hosts on Japanese television, and hosting is a craft outsiders badly underrate. Born in Fujisawa, Kanagawa in 1972, he came up as a singer and an actor, but what he really mastered was the room: reading a guest's rhythm, taking the hit himself so someone else could land the joke, keeping a live studio from ever going cold. That takes a very quick mind wearing a very casual face. He was also a quiet philanthropist, holding the Medal with Dark Blue Ribbon for charitable giving. He has since stepped away from the entertainment industry, and that particular cadence of his is gone from the screen. I am not the person to weigh up how that chapter should be judged. But the technical skill of the hosting itself deserves to stay in the record.
