My Take
There's something I love about a kid from Izumi in Osaka growing up to chase fly balls in a pro outfield, and I'll admit I'm a sucker for the local-boy-makes-good arc with Masayuki Kuwahara. He's not the towering slugger you picture when someone says "ballplayer"; at 174cm he reads like the fast, scrappy outfielder who wins you over with reads and routes instead of raw size, the kind of guy whose Golden Glove leather and hustle do the talking. I don't pretend to track every box score, but a right-handed outfielder with two Golden Gloves who still puts in the work every day? That's an easy guy to root for. I quietly hope he's got a few more wild seasons left in him.
