My Take
To me Melina Kanakaredes is the kind of performer who anchors a scene without ever showing off. Whether she was playing Dr. Sydney Hansen in Providence or Detective Stella Bonasera across six seasons of CSI: NY, she gravitated toward intelligent, steely women, and she made that strength feel lived-in rather than performed. There is something fitting about her Greek-American roots and her Akron, Ohio upbringing in that grounded, unfussy presence. I admire actors who build long, steady careers on craft instead of noise, and she belongs squarely in that category. She deserves more recognition than she usually gets.
