Mellody Hobson

Mellody Hobson represents a kind of excellence I find quietly thrilling: power exercised through numbers and judgment rather than spotlight. A Princeton graduate who became co-CEO of Ariel Investments and chaired both Starbucks and DreamWorks Animation, she navigated finance and boardrooms where Black women have long been underrepresented, and did it with measured authority. I am drawn to figures who build trust slowly and let results speak. Her influence may be less visible than an actor's or athlete's, but it shapes institutions that touch millions. That patient, substantive form of leadership is, to me, the most enduring kind of fame.
