Michael Ashcroft

Michael Ashcroft strikes me as a strategist first and a tycoon second. Born in Chichester in 1946 with British and Belizean roots, he founded his own firm in 1972, climbed to 132nd on the 2021 Sunday Times Rich List with an estimated fortune over a billion pounds, and served as deputy chairman of the Conservative Party. What impresses me most is his work as a pollster, reading public opinion through hard numbers. Wealth alone never interests me much, but the analytical instinct behind it does, and his is sharp and relentless.
