My Take
What strikes me about Michael Finley is the steady-hand career arc. He came out of Wisconsin, got drafted by Phoenix in 1995, and then quietly became the face of the Dallas Mavericks for years before they were a contender. I find it telling that he had to leave Dallas to finally win it all, grabbing a ring with the Spurs in 2007. Two All-Star nods and 15 seasons is no fluke. What I respect most, though, is the second act: stepping into front-office work with the Mavericks shows the basketball brain didn't retire when the legs did.
