Michel Gondry

Michel Gondry fascinates me because he treats filmmaking like a child treats a cardboard box: as infinite possibility. His Oscar for Eternal Sunshine was deserved, but the real signature is his handmade, almost defiantly low-tech imagination, all dream logic and tactile wonder. Director, screenwriter, actor, comics artist, he refuses to stay in one lane, and that restlessness keeps his work alive. France honored him with the National Order of Merit, yet nothing about him reads as institutional. I value artists who build whole worlds from scraps and sincerity, and Gondry remains one of the most genuinely inventive minds working in the medium.
