Mickey Curtis

Honestly, Mickey Curtis feels less like a celebrity and more like a living chunk of postwar Japanese pop history that just refuses to stand still. Picture it: a half-British kid out of Minato, Tokyo, born in 1938, screaming rockabilly to fainting teenagers at the Nichigeki Western Carnival when rock and roll was still brand new and slightly scandalous here. What gets me is he never settled into one lane, drifting from teen idol to actor to music producer and somehow ending up doing rakugo, of all things. That kind of restless range is rare. He's got that craggy, leonine face and a sly, unbothered cool that age only sharpened. To me he's the rare elder who got mellower without ever going soft, the mischief still glinting behind the eyes.
