My Take
Mika Nakashima has one of those voices that lingers long after the song ends. Born in 1983 in Kagoshima, she became a fixture of Japanese music with Yuki no Hana, a winter standard, and proved her range by both playing and singing as Nana Osaki, earning a Japan Academy Prize after winning Best New Artist at the Japan Record Awards. What I admire most is her refusal to chase trends; she built a moody, distinctly personal artistic world and stayed loyal to it. Knowing she has kept performing while facing hearing difficulties only deepens my respect. She is an artist I genuinely want to keep following.
