Mile Svilar

I'll be honest — I didn't really start paying close attention to Mile Svilar until Roma made it clear they were building their goalkeeping future around this guy, and once I did, I got it immediately. Born in Antwerp to Serbian parents in 1999, he's got this quietly commanding presence between the posts — 189 cm of composed authority who doesn't need theatrics to make you feel like the goal is sealed. He came up through Anderlecht and had a rough early stint at Benfica, which could have derailed a lesser keeper, but he regrouped, found his footing at Roma, and by 2024 was genuinely one of the more reliable shot-stoppers in Serie A. What I find compelling is the dual-identity thread — Belgian-born, Serbian international — and how that outsider's resilience seems baked into how he plays. Still only in his mid-twenties, he's got the ceiling of someone who could be competing for a top European club for the next decade.
