My Take
Being the daughter of Ryuichi Sakamoto and Akiko Yano is not a head start, it is a life sentence of comparison. Every note Miu Sakamoto sings arrives with two enormous names attached, and there is no genre far enough away to escape them. What I admire is that she never tried to outrun the surname or hide behind it. She sings, writes lyrics, composes, and narrates, which means she makes her living from the instrument that is unmistakably her own. That calm, unhurried speaking voice is not inheritance, it is craft, built job by job. Inheriting a musical bloodline is the heaviest possible gift, and the only real answer is to turn it into something no one else could have made. She has done exactly that, quietly, on her own terms.
