My Take

What strikes me about Mazaheri is the brutal arc of his story. A 192 cm goalkeeper from an Iranian oil town, he spent a career stopping shots for the national team, then in 2026 spoke against Ali Khamenei during the protests and vanished. I find that almost unbearably poignant: a man whose whole profession was guarding a goal ended up unprotected himself for the simple act of speaking. I am less interested in his save statistics than in the courage it took to step into that line of fire. Wherever he is, I hope he is safe, and I think his name deserves to be remembered.
